Travel Basketball in Portland, Maine

Ole Port Basketball is a Travel Basketball program for boys and girls in Grades 3rd-8th who live in Portland.

Ole Port Basketball is open to all kids in grades 3-8 who live or attend a public school in Portland, Maine. This is a change in our previous eligibility policy in order to meet new standards enforced by The Maine Basketball League. Players who attend a private school in Portland but live in another town are grandfathered to play if they played Ole Port last season.

Participants MUST try out and be selected to participate in this league as space is limited in each level. Rosters will be limited to a max of 10 players. There may be multiple teams at some grade levels if numbers allow. Teams will play in The Maine Basketball League (formerly the SMHL) or the Falmouth 3rd/4th League, with the season running from mid-November through mid-February. Games are on weekends in Portland, Saco and other local towns. Teams will practice at least once a week in Portland. If offered a spot on a team, the registration cost of $295 will be due in full to confirm the spot. The fee covers league registration, gym rental, insurance, and uniform. Scholarships are available for players in need. Please contact us for more information. Ole Port Basketball is a volunteer-run organization.

  • Players must be registered for the Assessments to attend. (No cost to attend assessments)

  • Ole Port Travel Basketball does not guarantee any roster spots, and attending tryouts does not guarantee a roster spot. 

No fees will be charged until team selections are determined.

2025-26 Recap

We had 15 teams play in The Maine Basketball League, and two teams play in the Falmouth 3rd/4th League.

Additionally, we had a number of teams continue on for the postseason, competing in tournaments such as the Paper City Classic, Maine Town Team Championships, and New England Championships in Rhode Island.

Ole Port Basketball launched for the 2023-24 Southern Maine Hoops League season to give Portland kids an option to compete in a competitive Travel Basketball league against other towns. It is intended to complement, not compete with, the existing Portland Rec and middle school basketball leagues. It is open to all kids in grades 3-8 who live in Portland, Maine. 

The Season

The Maine Basketball League season begins in mid-November. Teams play 12 games in the regular season, with all team advancing to a double-elimination playoff, which concludes in early February. Games are in Portland, Saco and other area locations. Teams practice at least once a week in Portland.

TEAM SPONSORSHIP: $495 - Your Business logo will be featured on the back of shooting shirts. Your logo will also be posted on our website, and you will receive social media shout-out. At the end of the season, you will receive a sponsorship plaque to display at your business.

PLAYER SPONSORSHIP: $295 - Your donation will fund a scholarship for a player who cannot afford the registration fee. You will be recognized on our website and Facebook page for your generosity.
